After you add a model with a design table, and specify the external parameters, you can select the rules that govern the model. Rules include: Basic Rules, Design Table Rules, and Hierarchical Rules.
If you select to use Hierarchical Rules to govern the model's behavior, a wizard guides you through the process. Hierarchical rules establishes the relationships between parameters.
You can assign relationships to some of the
parameters, save the changes, and return later to assign relationships
to the remaining parameters. Or you can edit existing relationships. Before
you run the Hierarchical Rules wizard, set rule mode to Hierarchical
Rules.
If you selected to migrate existing design table data, use Design Table Data Migration.
If you are entering new data, follow the procedure listed next.
To run the Hierarchical Rules wizard using new data):
From the [your model] Parameter dialog box, click Edit for the first parameter.
From the [external first parameter name] Parameter dialog box, select one of the following:
Enter a list of choices - allows you enter individual parameter values
Enter a range of values - allows you to enter different value ranges, incremented by a value you select
If you select Enter
a range of values following parameters, you cannot use this parameter
as part of a one-to-many or a one-to-one relationship.
Click Next.
In the Enter Parameters for [external first parameter name] dialog box, enter as many parameters as required. Each time you enter a parameter, a new box opens.
Click Finish.
The [your model] Parameter dialog box is displayed, with either Choice or Range in the Type column.
Click Edit for the second parameter. From the [external second parameter name] dialog box, select one of the following:
Enter a list of choices - allows you enter individual parameter values
Enter a range of values - allows you to enter different value ranges, incremented by a value you select
If you select Enter
a range of values, following parameters, you cannot use this parameter
as part of a one to many or a one to one relationship.
Click Next.
The Relationship mode for [external second parameter name] dialog box is displayed.
Select one of the following:
No relationship exists between the two parameters. For example, any one parameter can be associated to any other parameter, regardless of it's position in the design table.
The two parameters are associated to each other, but not to any other parameters in the model. For example, when associating length(1) to width(1), a one-to-one relationship indicates the following: For each value of length(1) on this model, there is a single valid for width(1). In a design table, these values appear along the same row in the design table. If you selected to enter new data, you can only associate a single length(1) for every width(1).
The two parameters are associated to each other, but not to other parameters in the model. For example, when associating length(1) to width(1), a one-to-many relationship indicates the following: The length(1) on this model can use any of the values for width(1) that are included in the design table. Or it can include relationships to any length (1) and width(1) parameters that you add.
Click Next.
The display dynamically reflects your selection of relationships.
Do one of the following:
One to one relationship. If you selected a One to one relationship, the Enter values for [external second parameter name] dialog box is displayed, showing values for the first external parameter.
Enter a new parameter to associate with each existing parameter, and click Next.
The Visibility mode dialog box is displayed. Visibility mode is available only when you select a One to one relationship. Click either of the following:
Information only. This creates values which are displayed.
Hidden. This hides the values you added to this parameter. The XML interface marks this parameter as hidden, and the parameter is not displayed on the View/Downloads tab, parametric view. The resulting value, however, can be used for model creation.
Click Finish.
One to many relationship. If you selected a One to many relationship, the Enter values for [external second parameter name] dialog box is displayed.
Enter as many new parameters as needed, and click Next.
The One to Many Relationship dialog box is displayed where you can associate the parameters to each other. To associate parameters, do the following:
Select a value from the first column, and press Ctrl and select the values from the second column.
Click Assign combination(s).
The two values are displayed below. Note the check box. If you want to delete this combination, select the check box and click Delete selected combination(s).
Continue the selection process until all combinations are listed.
