When determining the organizational structure of the catalog, consider the following issues:
Are SolidWorks configurations an efficient method of representing a family of parts or assemblies?
Use configurations whenever possible. Configurations provide a convenient way to develop and manage families of models with different dimensions, components, or other parameters within one SolidWorks file.
Should you use predefined configurations or have 3D PartStream.NET dynamically create the models?
You can predefine configurations, or have 3D PartStream.NET dynamically create the model. With models that include hundreds of configurations such as O-rings, configurations can be inefficient. However, if you create a universal configuration, the catalog's Web interface (created by the 3D PartStream partner) must have the capability to validate requested dimensions that correspond to real part dimensions.
